No. 37 Maryland Grasps Win Against No. 35 NC State, 5-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 37 Maryland Women's Tennis Team won its home match today against No. 35 NC State, 5-2. Maryland's record is now 10-9, 3-5 in the ACC. The match was played at the Tennis Center at College Park.

Starting in the doubles matches were Ramona But and Marianne Baker, ranked 12th in the country. But and Baker added another win to their record, defeating their opponents, 8-4. Jennifer Dent and Michal Amir played the second doubles for the Terps, also winning, 8-5. Maryland's lead was now 1-0 over NC State.

No. 40 But played first singles for the Terps. She won the first set, 6-4, but fell in the second, 6-4. However, But seemed to drain her opponent's energy, winning the last set, 6-1, and added another win to Maryland's lead.

No. 65 Baker played second for the Terps. Finishing first for the Terps, Baker easily won in a two-set match, 6-4, 6-4. Jennifer Dent, who played third for the Terps, lost in a tough match. She won the first set, 6-2, but dropped in the next two sets, 7-5, 6-3.

Veronika Subertova, who played fourth singles for the Terps, also won her match. Subertova took the first set, 6-3, but lost the second, 6-4. In the third set, Subertova won, 6-3, and took the match.

Neda Mihneva, who was the last to finish for the Terps, fell in a hard-fought match at fifth singles. Mihneva won the first set, 6-3, but fell in the second, 6-2. In a tight third set, Subertova fell, 7-6 (1). Rounding out the singles matches for the Terrapins was Michal Amir, who won her 11th match of the season, 6-2, 6-0.
