The Maryland swimming and diving team will be back in action on Friday afternoon for the Red/Black Intrasquad Meet. The meet will begin at 4:00 pm in the Campus Recreation Center.
The team will be divided into two squads, red and black, for competition against each other. The event will allow swimmers to compete in some non-traditional races both as teams and individually.
The events for the afternoon will include a team 500-yard freestyle, a 200-yard Medley Relay, one-meter diving, 150-yard races of each stroke (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly), a 300-yard Individual Medley, and a progressive freestyle relay where the 50, 100, 150, and 200 freestyles are each covered in the event.
"Our intrasquad meet is always a festive meet," says head coach, Dave Durden, "Our athletes have the opportunity to race some non-traditional races and our divers have the opportunity to compete in a competitive environment. Our athletes are extremely competitive, so as much as this is an exhibition, our team will be competing very hard against one another."
