The Maryland Terrapins are set to host Villanova and Pittsburgh in a home meet this Friday and Saturday. The Terps are coming off of a second-place finish (126 points) at the FIU Invitational last weekend. Maryland placed behind Iowa (142 points) and ahead of four other participating teams on the men's side. The Terps had a strong showing in the relay meet, winning six out of the eight events.
The Maryland men's team currently holds a 1-4 overall season record. The Terps look to face Pittsburgh (3-2) and Villanova (2-5) for the first time this year.
This weekend's competition will begin on January 12th at 5:00 pm in Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center. Friday's meet will include the 1650-yard freestyle, 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 400 individual medley, 100 free, 100 breaststroke, and 200 free relay. One meter diving will take place simultaneously to these events on Friday evening.
On January 13th, Maryland's senior class will be honored at their final home meet as Terrapins. Senior recognitions will begin at 10:45 am and events will promptly follow. Saturday's meet will include the 500 free, 400 medley relay, 200 free, 200 IM, 200 fly, 50 free, 200 back, 200 breast and 400 free relay. Three meter diving will occur at the same time as these events on Saturday morning.
"This weekend will be our seniors' last home meet," says Maryland head coach, Dave Durden, "As proud as I am of everything they have accomplished athletically (from winning ACC titles, to All-American honors and even to qualifying for World Championship trials), I am most proud of their accomplishments outside of the pool. We graduate a senior class that collectively carries over a 3.0 GPA. Our seniors have quickly understood the meaning of being a part of this program well beyond their years as an athlete, and I look forward to their last couple of months as University of Maryland swimmers as we head into ACCs and NCAAs." The following members of Maryland's 2007 senior class will be recognized on the men's side this weekend:
