The Maryland men's swimming and diving team will travel to Blacksburg, Va. this weekend for a meet against Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech. The Terrapins are coming off of a win against Villanova and a loss against Pittsburgh last week when Maryland hosted the two teams for Senior Weekend.
The men's team now holds a 2-5 overall season record. This weekend marks the team's second meet against ACC teams this season; the Terps are currently 0-2 in the ACC after dropping an away meet to Duke and NC State in November. Maryland is in 10th place in the conference on the men's side.
After last weekend's competition, Maryland senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) is ranked seventh in the ACC for the 50-yard freestyle (20.66) and 10th in the conference for the 100 free (46.01). Sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa.) is ranked 10th in the ACC for the 100 backstroke (50.35).
The Terps will face Virginia Tech (sixth in the ACC) and Georgia Tech (ninth in the ACC) for the first time this season. Last year, during regular season, the Terps fell to both teams in an ACC quad meet (also with Florida State) for the 2005-06 home opener. Georgia Tech holds a 2-4 overall record and 0-2 record in the ACC this year. The Yellow Jackets picked up two wins last weekend against Florida Atlantic and Emory. Virginia Tech holds 5-2 season record and 1-2 ACC record for this season. The Hokies are coming off of a win against East Carolina last weekend.
The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20th at Virginia Tech's War Memorial Pool.
