
Maryland To Face UNC On The Road

Maryland men's swimming and diving, currently ranked 10th in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. this weekend for conference competition against No. 3 in the ACC, North Carolina. The dual will take place Saturday, January 27th at UNC's Maurice J. Koury Natatorium. The meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. Swimming World Magazine highlights the dual for this week's "Meet of the Week" feature.
The Terrapins are coming off of losses against Georgia Tech (186-52) and Virginia Tech (190-48) in last weekend's meet that took place in Blacksburg, Va. Maryland now holds a 2-7 overall record and 0-4 conference record for this season on the men's side.
North Carolina holds a 3-1 conference record for this season. The Tar Heels defeated Duke, Clemson, and N.C. State in ACC action this year, but fell to Virginia last weekend. UNC is 4-3 overall this season. North Carolina is coming off of a recent win this past Tuesday, January 23rd, against N.C. State.
Maryland is led by senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) who maintained a position in the ACC's top-ten times after last weekend's meet. Gray is ranked eighth in the 50-yard freestyle (20.66), the event in which he holds the school record (19.91).
Last Weekend for the Terps:
-Maryland dropped an away meet to conference rivals Georgia Tech (186-52) and Virginia Tech (190-48).
-The Terps swam a season-best time in the 400 medley relay (3:27.15) for fourth place and finished third in the 400 free relay (3:10.70).
-Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) finished sixth in both the 200 free (1:46.41) and the 200 backstroke (1:56.93).
-Gray led Maryland with a second-place swim in the 50 free (20.87).
-Sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa.) swam his season-best time of 46.09 in the 100 free for a fifth-place finish.
-Senior Tim Shepard (Catonsville, Md.) swam to a third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:09.30) and finished eighth in the 200 individual medley (2:00.33).
-In three-meter diving, Maryland took fourth and sixth place with junior Derek Hock (Aliquippa, Pa.) and freshman Patrick Meck (Rockville, Md.) scoring 253.60 points and 234.15 points respectively.
-Hock went on to place sixth in one-meter diving with 251.20 points.
