For the third week in a row, the Maryland gymnastics team hits the road this Friday to compete in the 12th annual Governor's Cup in Raleigh, N.C., against Towson, North Carolina and host NC State.
This annual meet matches the two gymnastics programs from the state of North Carolina against the two teams from the state of Maryland. The Terps have won this competition twice, in 2000 and 2002; Maryland has also been the runners-up four times.

The No. 41 Terrapins are coming off a fourth place finish at a quad meet against West Virginia, North Carolina and Kentucky on January 26 where they scored a 191.400. The team's record is now 2-6. Freshman Brandi George was the highlight of the meet for the Terps. George placed third in the all-around (38.825) and third on the floor (9.775). The team's record is now 2-6.
Notes on the Competition
No. 40 Towson, an Eastern College Athletic Conference member, is coming off a big win over Penn and Temple on January 27. They scored a 192.950 and upped their record to 5-1. Freshman Jackie Schweitzer finished first in the all-around competition with a career best 38.90 score. This will be the second time this season that the Terps face the Tigers. Maryland beat Towson in the home-opener on January 12, 191.750-189.225.
No. 30 NC State competed twice last week, falling both times. Rutgers beat NC State on January 25th, 191.800-191.575, and then Penn State topped them on January 27th, 193.850 -192.625.
No. 38 North Carolina competed in against Maryland, Kentucky and West Virginia in a quad meet last Friday. The Tar Heels finished third with a 192.000 team score to bring their record to 5-2. This will be the second of four times that Maryland faces North Carolina this season.
