COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland's softball program will become much easier to follow this season thanks to campus radio station WMUC, which has agreed to provide live broadcast coverage of many of the Terrapins' games in 2007.
Campus radio station sports director Bret Lasky said WMUC's coverage of Maryland softball will get underway with the first two tournaments of the season - the Dunkin' Donut's Classic Feb. 16-18 in Boca Raton, Fla, and the Palm Springs (Calif.) Classic Feb. 23-25.
Plans for future coverage will be announced on umterps.com. Most games will be heard on wmucsports.com, with some heard on wmucradio.com, according to Lasky. Fans will be able link to the broadcasts directly from the front page of umterps.com.
"I am so proud and excited to add Terp softball to our long list of sports we cover at the University of Maryland," said Lasky. "We hope to provide students, alumni, friends and family of the program a new way to follow the Terps during the 2007 softball season. Softball is something that WMUC has always wanted to cover, and with the help of the athletic department administration, the dream has become a reality."
Said head coach Laura Watten, "This is a significant step for our program, and we are extremely appreciative of WMUC for its interest and involvement. We have a lot of family and friends of the program who will benefit from this real-time coverage, and we certainly feel these broadcasts will expose our program to new fans. We couldn't have done it without the help of those who contributed monetarily to our booster group, and we are most appreciative of their support, as well."
In December, WMUC announced it will broadcast the "Laura Watten Show" every Monday from 4-4:30 p.m. The "Laura Watten Show" begins Feb. 5. Fans should check the softball page of umterps.com regularly to access WMUC's play-by-play coverage schedule of Terrapin softball.
