Junior Chris Gold continued his strong play during the fall men's golf season on Tuesday, placing as the University of Maryland's top individual finisher for the second straight tournament with a tie for 13th at the VCU Shootout.
Gold shot a final round of 73 for the Terrapins to finish the 54 holes with a 214 total. Freshman Donnie Shin had Maryland's best round of the day with a 2-under-par 70, moving him up 14 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 59th at 223. Freshman Andrew Kay tied for 26th at 218 after a final-round 76 on Tuesday.
Also for the Terrapins, Tom Hanna III tied for 67th at 227 after a final-round 78, with Brendan Tracy tying for 72nd at 229 following a 74.
As a team, Maryland finished in 11th place at 876 after carding a 293 total on Tuesday. The Terps finished eight shots out of a top-10 finish. Penn State fired a 283 in the final round to win the team title at 845, breaking out of a tie with Wisconsin to start the day. The Badgers finished second at 848, with Chattanooga and Wake Forest tying for third at 849.
Kevin Foley of Penn State finished off a wire-to-wire victory individually, shooting a second straight 68 on his way to a 15-under total of 201. He won by five strokes over Jonathan Hodge of Chattanooga.
Maryland plays next on Oct. 7 and 8 at the Coca-Cola Duke Classic.
