
Maryland Begins Action on Friday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's swimming and diving team is set to open the 2007-08 season this Friday, October 26. The meet will begin at 3:00 against Johns Hopkins at Maryland's Eppley Recreation Center. The men's swimming team is eager to improve on last year's 2-9 overall record, placing eighth in the ACC competition. This year, assistant coach Jarod Schroeder will sign on as the Terps' interim coach. Maryland will also be led by their two assistant coaches Demerae Christianson and Kevin Clements.
The Johns Hopkins men's team opened their season against Navy last Friday, October 19. The Midshipmen topped the visiting Blue Jays 162-95. Hopkins won five events at the meet.
Last year against Johns Hopkins: -Junior Dong Kim took the 100 free (46.11) followed by senior captain Jake DiPiazza in a third-place finish (50.08).
-Senior Captain Eric Thomasson placed second in the 200 free (1:45.81).
-Thomasson went on to win the 100 backstroke (53.61).
-Sophomore Chris Rouchard won the 1000 free (9:50.35). Rouchard also swam to a first-place finish in the 500 free (4:50.37).
-Junior Eric Cullen won the 100 breaststroke (59.01).
