Well, we finally did it! The six long weeks of boot camp are over! After all of the spin classes, Fartlek runs, lifting, and swimming, everyone looks great! Our hard work and dedication has really paid off. To celebrate the end of boot camp, the whole team went out for a celebratory dinner. It was fun getting to talk about all of the fun times we have had together so far this year. I really think that boot camp made us a closer and stronger team. Throughout boot camp everyone was exceedingly supportive and encouraging of one another, you could really see the team dynamics growing. Being a freshman, it was great to see how dedicated and encouraging the upper classmen can be.
Saturday was homecoming and I heard the coaches organized an alumni tailgate. My parents said they stopped by and there was a number of old team members who came out. I'm sure it was fun for everyone to catch up and reminisce. Sunday was also a big day for the team. We took the Metro out to Washington D.C. and participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The event was a 5-mile walk around many of the monuments in D.C. Everyone wore their new Maryland Gymnastics Nike shirts and looked great! It was amazing seeing all of the people who took part in this event. It feels good being able to do our part in community events like this, knowing that our participation may give others hope and motivation. Not to mention it helps us as a team put some of our frustrations into perspective.
Now that boot camp is over our new focus is the two intra-squad meets we have coming up! We are starting to put routines together and everyone is looking awesome! All of our floor routines are now choreographed, thanks to our good friend Russell Warfield, and they are all very fun and unique.
I am so excited for this season to start. We have a lot of talent on the team and this season is defiantly going to be one to remember! Thanks for your support, and GO TERPS!!
