Junior Chris Gold fired a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday, while sophomore Brendan Tracy finished as the top University of Maryland player on the leader board at the UNCG Bridgestone Collegiate Championship men's golf event played at the Forest Oaks Country Club.
Tracy carded a 72 on Tuesday to finish 54 holes with a 5-over-par total of 221 and tie for 29th individually. Freshman Donnie Shin tied for 35th with a 222 total, with Gold rallying to tie teammate Andrew Kay for 54th at 226. Tom Hanna III had a 230 total for a tie for 69th.
As a team, Maryland shot a strong 288 on Tuesday, posting the seventh-best team round of the day in a national-class field that included eight teams ranked in the top 40. The Terps finished with an 892 total, placing 14th in the team standings after starting the day in 15th.
Louisville won the team title with a 4-under-par team total of 860. The Cardinals hung on despite a rally by Mississippi State, which shot 277 on Tuesday to finish at 863. UCF placed third at 866.
Individually, Derek Fathauer of Louisville held on to his second-round lead by shooting a 68 to finish at 10-under-par 206. Brett Cairns of Kent State placed second at 211, with Greg Forest of UCF placing third at 212 after a strong 66 on Tuesday.
The event finished the Fall 2007 schedule for the Maryland men's golf team.
