Chris Gold, Brendan Tracy and Andrew Kay each fired 2-under-par rounds of 70 in Sunday's second round to lead University of Maryland players after 36 holes of the Coca-Cola Duke Golf Classic being held at the Duke Golf Club.
Gold, a Terrapin junior, moved from 35th to a tie for 18th place with his second round, finishing the 36 holes at 1-under-par 143. Kay went from a tie for 44th to a tie for 23rd at 144 following his improvement in the second round of the day.
Tracy finished the day with a 147 total and in 49th place individually. Donnie Shin and Tom Hanna III were tied for 50th with a 148 total.
Maryland was tied for ninth place in the team standings after two rounds, finishing the day at 579 and tied with VCU. The Terrapins are only six shots out of sixth place heading into Monday's final round.
The host Blue Devils shot a 273 team score in the second round to take a two-shot lead over Tennessee-Chattanooga after 36 holes. Duke was at 560, with Chattanooga at 562 and Ohio State in third at 566.
Jonathan Hodge of Chattanooga was atop the individual leaderboard with Michael Schachner of Duke, each finishing at 137 on Sunday. They led by one shot over Adam Long of Duke and Patrick Simard of Ohio State.
