Knowing we only had one week of boot camp left before our week break, everyone was going really hard in the gym this week. The past four weeks of boot camp have gone by so fast, and we only have two more ahead of us!
We started off the week with an early lift and fartlek. All the girls pushed their legs to the limit in our diagonal and Indian runs. Even the heat couldn't get to us! Then it was off to the student speaker that night where Tom Thomas entertained us all with his thoughts on "Expert Hands" and proper etiquette.
In the gym, the coaches had us all focused on consistency and details, and everyone definitely rose to the challenge. Duke had us doing mini-routines on bars, working on our handstands and stuck landings. Allie's full-ins and Gretchen's double lays were looking as solid as ever, and Kaitlin was showing off her never-failing handstands. Kelsey McDermid, or K-Mac, as Kelsey Nelligan calls her, is working tcatchev drills again, and we are all anxious for her to start throwing some over the bar! Brandi, as always, impressed us with her handspring-lay-lay series on beam. It never ceases to amaze me how rock-solid she is. Everyone was working bigger vaults and tumbling this week to get ready for season. Valbert's yurchenko full vault is definitely turning heads, and Kelsey Nelligan's vault is looking stronger and stronger each week. Brenner and Talia's tumbling is getting so powerful; their passes will definitely be ready for when season comes. Both of our Texans, Abbey and Candice were nursing slight injuries this week, but they were working hard on bars and cheering everyone on to keep the energy up in the gym. Abbey is getting more and more consistent on her release combination and it looks great!
This week was a special week for our personal "Mo-tivator," Mo. It was "like Christmas!" she said when Kristen, or trainer, allowed her to start running and swinging bars again. It didn't take but a few minutes for Mo to go all out on her releases. Everyone is so happy to have her back!
We ended of the week with an energetic circuit lift. All the girls were pumped up to finish out the week and get ready for a week off! Since Wednesday was Gretchen's birthday, she had big plans to go home this weekend to celebrate. For now, we are all resting up for a good week ahead in the gym!
GO TERPS!!!
