COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland men's basketball program opened the early signing period by receiving National Letters of Intent from power forward Augustus Gilchrist (Temple Hills, Md./Progressive Christian) and shooting guard Sean Mosley (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy).
"We think we have added two very good players to our program," said head coach Gary Williams. "Sean is a very strong and aggressive player from St. Frances, while `Gus' is one of the top big men in the nation. These two young men will be great for our team."
Gilchrist was rated the No. 52 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com and was listed as the No. 14 power forward by the scouting service. As a senior he averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots per game. He was named the MVP of the Capital Classic in April after he recorded 24 points and nine rebounds.
As a junior, Gilchrist averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds at Friendly high school in Clinton, Maryland. He was named All-Prince George's County as a junior.
Mosley, a product of Baltimore, was rated the No. 60 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com and was tabbed the 13th best shooting guard. A two-time Nike All-American, Mosley has been named All-Met by the Baltimore Sun each of the past three years. He averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals as a junior. Mosley was named BCC and MIAA All-League last season. As a sophomore, he posted 18.5 points and six rebounds per contest. Mosley chose Maryland over Clemson, Florida State and Syracuse.
