Maryland Gymnastics Inks Phillips

Nov. 16, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland head coach Bob Nelligan announced today that Kyra Phillips has signed A National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Maryland and compete for the Terrapin gymnastics team in 2008-2009.

"Kyra is very strong on uneven bars, but we feel she is a complete athlete able to score on any event," says Terps' head coach Bob Nelligan. Phillips has trained at one of the top gyms on the west coast, Precision Gymnastics in California. Her best event is the uneven bars and will contribute to the Terps right away. Phillips finished 25th in the all-around at the 2006 Junior Olympic National Championships including an 11th-place finish on the bars.

"Kyra adds needed depth and experience to a very young Terrapin program," noted Nelligan.

Maryland starts the 2008 season when it hosts Ohio State on January 11.
