Terps Remain Undefeated At ACC Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior Derek Hock won six points for Maryland, leading the Terps to their first ACC victory, 149-144. This is the Maryland men's first ACC win since January 28, 2005, where they beat the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C., 144-96.
The men won nine of 16 events for the day to improve their record to 2-0, 1-0 ACC, while Duke falls to 1-2, 0-2 ACC. The meet was hosted by the Terps at the Eppley Center's Natatorium on Saturday, November 3.
"This is the first time the men have won an ACC duel meet in a long time, and we are very excited about it," said Interim Head Coach Jarod Schroeder. "The guys were psyched up the entire meet. I can't say enough how well they swam today."
Senior Captain Eric Thomasson, juniors Dong Kim, Eric Cullen and freshman Nick Cordes set the tone of the day by winning the men's 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:27.18. Maryland also placed second and third in the heat.
Kim also won three other events of the day in the 100 yard backstroke, the 100 yard freestyle and the 400 yard freestyle relay. Kim swam to victory with a final time of 51.55 in the 100 yard backstroke to capture Maryland's second heat victory of the day.
Hock competed in two dives for the day. He earned a final score of 237.36 in the 1 meter dive and 151.04 in the 3 meter dive.
The Terps will be back in action in two weeks in time to host the Terrapin Cup Invitational from November 15-17.
