Women's Lacrosse Ranked Fourth Nationally By Lacrosse Magazine

Dec. 19, 2007

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Maryland women's lacrosse team is ranked fourth in the nation in Lacrosse magazine's annual preseason college rankings, released December 19. The Terrapins finished the 2007 season 16-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.

Northwestern was picked No. 1 in the country as the three-time defending national champion. ACC rivals Virginia and Duke are ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, ahead of the Terps while Syracuse rounds out the top five.

Maryland returns eight starters and 23 letterwinners in 2008 from a squad that went 16-4 and 4-1 in the ACC last season. Even though the Terps lose their top scorer from a year ago in Krista Pellizzi, the offense returns 73 percent of the scoring, or 320 of the 439 points scored.

Seniors Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper are two retuning All-Americans for Maryland in 2008. Dobbie was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2007 and the 2007 ACC Player of the Year. She ranked fourth in the nation in draw controls. Kasper was also an All-ACC honoree which marks the second-straight season she was named an All-American and a member of the conference team.
