The Maryland gymnastics team made its first public appearance of the season at its annual Red vs. Black Intra-Squad meet Friday at the Comcast Pavilion. The red team defeated the black team in a narrow victory.
Black team members swept the first half of the meet; Candice King won the vault and Brandi George won the uneven bars. The red team also had top-notch performances on the uneven bars by Michele Brenner and Margaux Meeks.
Abigail Adams of the red team came back from a rough bars set to win both the balance beam and floor exercise. Fellow red team member Michele Brenner along with black team member Lindsey Bonomo matched Adams for top honors on the floor.
Guest coaches included Marybeth Freeman (assistant field hockey coach) for the red team and Andrew Copelan (assistant men's lacrosse coach) for the black team. Terrapin student-athletes Maggie Eicks (water polo), Kat Masson (field hockey), Dominic Berger (track & field), and Jermaine Lemons (football) judged the meet.
The Terps begin the season at home against Ohio State on Friday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m.
