
Swim/Dive To End Regular Season At Virginia

Maryland men's swimming and diving is set to wrap up the 2006-07 regular season this weekend. The Terrapins will travel to Charlottesville for a dual meet against the University of Virginia on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m. The dual marks the last meet for Maryland before heading to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the 2007 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Championships beginning February 21st.
The Terps are currently 10th in the conference going into this weekend. After dropping last week's meet against conference rival North Carolina, Maryland tallies an 0-5 ACC record and 2-8 overall record.
Saturday, the Terps will face the Virginia Cavaliers, the No. 1 team in the ACC on the men's side. Virginia is 7-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference; the Cavaliers have defeated Clemson, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Duke and North Carolina in regular season competition. Virginia is coming off of a win against Pittsburgh on January 28th.
Maryland is led by senior Danny Gray (Carlisle, Pa.) who posted a season best in the 50-yard freestyle last weekend. His time of 20.60 is the eighth-fastest time in the ACC for this season.
Last Weekend For The Terps:
-Maryland fell to North Carolina 204-90.
-The Terps finished first in both the 200 medley relay (1:32.49) and the 200 free relay (1:23.42).
-Maryland swept the top-three places in the 50 free; Gray took first (20.60), sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa.) finished second (20.91) and freshman Ryan Greene (Minnetonka, Minn.) placed third (21.74).
-The Terps took second and third place in the 100 free with sophomore John Closs (New Providence, N.J.) and Junior Eric Thomasson (Severna Park, Md.) swimming a 48.14 and a 48.93 respectively.
-Kim was the top finisher for Maryland in the 200 backstroke (1:53.66) in second place.
-Sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) claimed a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.12
-Thomasson led the Terps in the 100 butterfly with a second-place swim (52.05) and the 200 fly with a third-place swim (1:55.53).
-Senior Tim Shepard swam to a third-place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:13.16).
