Amir Named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Feb. 12, 2007

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland sophomore Michal Amir was named ACC Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday. Amir, a native of Jerusalem, Israel, is the only Terrapin to be 6-0 in both singles and doubles play this spring.

In the nationally-ranked Terrapins' first ACC match of the season Sunday, Amir beat Boston College's Lauren Cash (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 3 singles position. She also won her doubles match with teammate Maggie MacKeever, defeating BC's Alina Sullivan and Lana Krasnopolsky (8-4). Amir's wins gave the No. 33 Terps a 5-2 victory over the Eagles.

Amir won both her singles and doubles matches in Maryland's 4-3 win over Old Dominion Saturday. She defeated ODU's Larissa Santos (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 3 singles position. Along with MacKeever, she beat Santos and Jana Kubicikova (8-3) in doubles.

The Terps travel to Williamsburg, Va. to face No. 25 William & Mary Wednesday afternoon at the McCormack - Nagelsen Tennis Center, before playing host to Richmond at 1 p.m. Saturday and VCU at noon Sunday. Both matches will take place at the Tennis Center at College Park.
