BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Maryland softball team dropped its finale at the Florida Atlantic Dunkin' Donuts Classic Sunday with a 2-1 loss at the hands of No. 14 Michigan at FAU Softball Stadium.
The Wolverines (9-1) captured the three-day event with the victory and improved to 9-1 on the season. The Terrapins dropped to 3-2 with the loss.
Rebekah Milian's bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning snapped a 1-all tie and sent the Wolverines to their fifth-straight win.
Lorilyn Wilson (5-1) picked up the victory with a complete game one-hitter. Wilson struck out 13 Terps and did not walk a batter. Meredith Nelles (2-1) suffered the loss for Maryland after pitching 6 1/3 innings and yielding six hits and two earned runs.
Stacey Jennings replaced Wilson with two aboard in the seventh. She got the second out of the inning, but walked Alessandra Giampaolo and Milian to force in Roya St. Clair with the game-winning run.
The Terps tied the contest at 1-all in the top of the second on designated hitter Keri Lounge's second home run of the season.
But Wilson set down the final 17 Maryland batters and only allowed one runner to reach scoring position in the game. Right fielder Jenny Belak advanced to second base in the first inning, but was stranded there.
Samantha Findlay's RBI single in the first scored Giampaolo from third, giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead.
Giampaolo and Findlay each had two hits on the day.
The Terps are off until next weekend when they travel to California for the Palm Springs Classic. The tournament kicks off Friday and features some of the top-ranked teams in the country, including UCLA and Texas.
