
Terps Sweep Weekly Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. - A pair of Maryland Terrapins swept this week's conference basketball honors as D.J. Strawberry (Corona, Calif./Mater Dei) was tabbed as the ACC Player of the Week and Greivis Vasquez (Caracas, Venezuela) was selected as the ACC Rookie of the Week.
In earning the ACC Player of the Week award for the second time this season, Strawberry averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and shot 56 percent from the field (16-of-27) as the Terps posted key ACC road wins over NC State and Clemson. The Corona, Calif., native opened the week with an 18-point, nine-rebound, two-blocked shot performance in Wednesday's 85-70 victory over the Wolfpack. Three days later, the senior guard tallied a game-high 22 points in an 82-66 win over the Tigers. Strawberry was named ACC Rookie of the Week on December 16, 2003 after helping the Terps post a win over top-ranked Florida.
Vasquez averaged 15.0 points, 8.5 assists and 4.5 steals while shooting 55 (11-of-20) from the field last week in victories over NC State and Clemson. The Caracas, Venezuela freshman scored 15 points, dished out six assists, and recorded four steals in 37 minutes against the Wolfpack. In Saturday's victory over the Tigers, Vasquez tallied 15 points, and recorded season highs in assists (11) and steals (5).
The Terrapins are 20-7 (6-6 ACC) and close out the regular season with three of four games at Comcast Center. Maryland returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 21) when the Terps play host to Florida State. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. at Comcast Center. The game can be heard on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and will be televised by the Raycom/Lincoln Financial Network.
