The Maryland gymnastics team will host its "Terps for a Cure" meet this Friday against James Madison, New Hampshire and Temple. The meet is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Comcast Center Pavilion and the team is accepting donations to raise awareness for breast cancer. ACC Select will be broadcasting this meet live online. The No. 32 Terrapins were defeated by No. 33 Wildcats last week in Durham, N.H., 195.225-194.550. Despite the loss, their team score was a season-high. Freshman Brandi George won this week's EAGL Rookie of the Week honor based on her performance at the meet. George set a season-high 39.225 score in the all-around. Tied for first with New Hampshire's Jaime DeMello, George notched the team's highest beam score, 9.875. On the floor, she turned in the team's top score (9.850) to tie for second-place with UNH's Fairen Plummer.
Wildcat gymnasts won the three other events. Justine Turner took vault by notching a 9.850. Helena Diodati's 9.900 was the meet's highest uneven bars score. Keeley Smith won the floor with a 9.875 score.
Both James Madison and Temple competed in the Towson Invitational last week. Towson placed first with a score of 193.500 followed by Cornell (189.575) and Penn (187.700). The Owls finished fourth (186.825) followed by Ursinus (186.775). James Madison finished sixth with a 185.175 score.
