Feb. 22, 2007

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 33 nationally-ranked Maryland women's tennis team will head to Philadelphia Saturday to face No. 37 Penn at noon in the Levy Tennis Pavillion.

The Terrapins (7-2) continue the road trip Sunday, facing Princeton at 11 a.m. in the Lenz Tennis Center.

Maryland defeated Richmond, 6-1, last Saturday with senior Brooke Rogers clinching the win for the Terps in her first appearance of the spring season. Rogers defeated Richmond's Jelena Zivanovic (6-1, 6-1).

The Terps went on to drop a match Sunday to No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth, 6-1, at the Tennis Center at College Park. Senior Marianne Baker, ranked No. 98 nationally in singles, scored for the Terrapins with her victory over VCU's Marianna Yuferova (6-3, 6-4).

Freshman Eleanor Peters broke into the national singles rankings this week at No. 66. Peters is currently 4-4 in singles play this season and 6-2 in doubles action, playing alongside Baker.

Penn is 5-1 heading into this weekend's match up, while Princeton is 2-2 in the spring season.
