Local gymnast Kelsey McDermid has been accepted into the University of Maryland and will join the Terrapin gymnastics team for the 2007-08 season. A resident of Woodbine, Md., McDermid, has accepted a walk-on position to the team.

I think Kelsey McDermid is going to be one of our most important recruits for the 2007/08 year. She has consistently proven that she is a collegiate athlete with great potential," head coach Bob Nelligan stated. "I see her being able to bolster our line-up in any of the four events. We look forward to her getting on campus and watching her progress."

McDermid is a member of Hill's Gymnastics Club in Gaithersburg, Md. and coached by Kelli Hill, Jen Bundy, Kirk Morris and Cynthia Smaha. A level 10 gymnast since 2005, McDermid is a former Level 10 National and Regional qualifier.

"I chose Maryland because it has so much to offer with their incredible academics and strong gymnastics team," said McDermid. "I really love the atmosphere that is created by the gymnasts and coaches. It is exciting and an honor to be a future Terrapin."

Also a stand-out in the classroom, McDermid, is a National Honor Society member and ranked in the top seven percent of her class.
