Baltimore, Md. -
Fresh off their 3-2 finish in the Maryland Invitational, the Terps will make the short trip up I-95 to take on Maryland-Baltimore County in a mid-week showdown. The Terps (10-10) have won their last two games by a combined score of 19-2.
UMBC hosted the Dawg Pound Tournament March 9-11 in their first action of the year, and came away with a 4-2 record.
Maryland and UMBC have not played since the Terps won two games in 2003, 8-0 and 2-0.
The Terps own a big edge in the all-time series, and have not lost to the Retrievers since a 1-0 decision in 1997.
Maryland will look to find more consistency at the plate. The Terps scored 26 runs in their three wins at the Maryland Invitational, but only two in a pair of losses. Jenny Belak and Amber Jackson were named to the all-tournament team.
UMBC freshman Amanda Fefel was named the America East Softball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 11, after she hit .333 (6-for-18) with a home run and three RBIs at the plate. From the pitcher's circle she struck out 14 batters in 12.2 innings with a 1.81 ERA to earn a 1-1 record.
