The Maryland Terrapins continue their ACC road swing this weekend as they visit the University of Miami Hurricanes for a three-game series. All three games can be heard live on WMUC Sports online, while Saturday's game will be televised on a tape delay. The game can be seen Sunday night at 7 p.m. on Comcast SportsNet.
Last weekend, the Terps won their fourth weekend series of the year as they took two of three from NC State in both teams' conference openers. Maryland took 6-3 and 4-2 wins on Friday and Saturday, respectively, before the Wolfpack offense exploded to a 20-3 win on Sunday.
Maryland swept the George Washington Colonials two weeks ago at Shipley Field, with a walkoff single on Friday, and then 11-4 and 6-4 wins in Saturday's doubleheader.
Junior reliever Brett Cecil set a new school record with his 16th career save on Feb. 17 in the Terps' 12-inning win over Creighton, 1-0. Cecil, who set the record for a single season in 2006 with 13 saves, was named to the preseason Clemens Award watch list and All-America second team by Baseball America. Cecil now has five saves on the season, as he has marked two in each of the past two weekends.
SERIES HISTORY
Maryland trails in the all-time series, 2-4 (.333).
Last season, Miami took the series but the Terps pulled out a win in Saturday's game, 5-4.
The two teams have only met twice, as they did not meet until the Hurricanes joined the ACC in 2005.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami enters the weekend series with a 12-9 record. The Hurricanes have won two straight over Maine and Rutgers this week after being swept last weekend at North Carolina.
The `Canes offense is led by Yonder Alonso, who is batting .408 with a team-leading 27 RBIs and six home runs.
On the mound, Miami will throw LHP Eric Erickson (2-2, 1.93 ERA), LHP Scott Maine (2-3, 5.57 ERA), and RHP Enrique Garcia (1-1, 3.38 ERA) this weekend.
TERPS FLY PAST THE EAGLES
On Wednesday, Maryland banged out 25 hits, tying a school record, as it cruised to a 27-0 victory against Coppin State at Shipley Field.
Every Maryland position player recorded at least one hit in the contest, with Steve Braun and AJ Casario leading the squad with four hits each. Casario also paced the offense with seven RBIs.
Senior Brandon Mise notched his first career hit, a triple in the fifth inning, and went on to finish 3-for-3 with an RBI. Other Terps making their mark in the hits column for the first time were freshman Ian Schwalenberg and redshirt freshman Mike Rozak, who each singled.
MURPHY'S LAW
Sophomore third baseman Mike Murphy has been on a tear at the plate recently, as the Silver Spring native has recorded a hit in all but one game this year.
Murphy is currently second on the team with a .319 batting average, but leads all Terps with 23 hits, including seven doubles.
Last weekend at NC State, Murphy finished 7-for-11 over the three-game series.
In Saturday's 4-2 win, he was a perfect 3-for-3 including a home run and two RBI doubles. The next day he repeated his feat with three hits, including another home run.
