COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The streaking Terrapins, winners of nine straight, head downtown on Wednesday to face the Georgetown Hoyas in a battle for area supremacy. Although the two schools are only a few dozen miles apart, the Terps and Hoyas have never before met on the softball field.
With last weekend's sweep of Virginia, Maryland holds a perfect 5-0 record on the road this season.
The Terps have been nothing short of spectacular offensively during their winning streak, and several seniors have stepped up in an effort to make their final campaign a memorable one.
Amber Jackson leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in home runs with 10, and walks with 21. She is third in the conference in RBIs per game with 1.89.
Lindsay Klein's batting average of .382 is fifth best in the ACC, while Jackson ranks eighth at .360.
Pitchers Stacey Jennings and Meredith Nelles have also stepped up their play, and found greater consistency from the circle. Jennings (5-7) has posted an ERA of 2.19, good for seventh in the conference. Nelles stands at 10-3 and ranks ninth with an ERA of 2.30.
Georgetown, meanwhile, has struggled this season to an 8-22 record. The Hoyas, who are coached by Pat Conlan, are 2-4 at home.
Jadig Garcia and Samantha Peters lead the Hoyas with averages of .317 and .321 respectively. The duo has combined for 52 hits, 21 RBIs, 21 runs, eight doubles, and thirteen stolen bases.
Jennifer Connell has been the Hoyas' most consistent weapon from the pitcher's circle. The freshman has struck out 76 batters on the year and holds a 6-10 record.
Maryland and Georgetown will meet again on Wednesday April 11 at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader in College Park.
