Maryland will host the 2007 East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship on Friday at 6:00 p.m. This marks the first time in Maryland's history that a gymnastics competition will be held on the main Comcast Center floor. The Terps have only hosted once before in 1999 when it placed second, the school's best ever finish in the championship.
The EAGL championship site rotates among the eight league members. The EAGL is comprised of the University of Maryland, University of North Carolina, and North Carolina State University of the Atlantic Coast Conference; University of Pittsburgh, Rutgers University and West Virginia University of the Big East Conference; George Washington University of the Atlantic 10 Conference and the University of New Hampshire of the America East Conference.
Maryland will be led by freshman all-arounder Brandi George. George received the EAGL Rookie of the Week honor on Tuesday for the third time this season. She is currently tied for third in the EAGL all-around rankings. Co-captains Rachel Colon and Angela Ferg will also guide the Terps. Colon is a 2006 first team All-EAGL member on the balance beam. Ferg, a 2006 second team All-EAGL member, is the Terps' top vaulter; she is ranked fifth in the league with a 9.835 Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). Uneven bars specialist Allison Dama holds the team's top RQS on bars with a 9.770. With matching 9.770 RQS scores, freshmen Talia Tossone and George led Maryland on the balance beam. George holds the highest floor exercise RQS with a 9.810 score.
