COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland Terrapins' pitching staff did not allow a hit for the first time in head coach Terry Rupp's tenure as the Terps overwhelmed Coppin State Wednesday, 12-0. Maryland (18-8) won its fourth-straight non-conference contest and its second over the Eagles (0-20) in as many weeks.

Freshman starter Brett Curll (2-0) was perfect in his two innings pitched and earned the win. For the Eagles, Harry Williams (0-4) took the loss in a solid performance, as he fell one out short of a complete game.

The Terps scored in the first seven innings, but did not bust out until the seventh when they plated four runs. Eight Terrapin position players recorded hits, led by sophomore Dan Benick, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Classmate Mike Murphy led the team with three runs batted in on the day, coming on a single, double and a sacrifice fly.

After Curll, four other pitchers saw action for the Terps, starting with freshman Tim Kearney, who allowed just one walk while notching a strikeout in two innings. He was followed by redshirt sophomore Brett Jones and freshman Nick Pearce, who each allowed one walk while striking out four batters in two innings pitched. Freshman Brian Shellhamer made his second appearance of the season and retired the Eagles ninth in order.

Maryland improved to 13-4 against opponents outside of the Atlantic Coast Conference as it swept the season series over Coppin State. The Terps have now outscored their last four non-conference opponents by a 71-5 margin.

Following a travel day, Maryland will be back in action Friday when it visits Georgia Tech for a crucial three-game ACC weekend series.
