Washington, D.C. - The Maryland Terrapins started slow out of the gates Wednesday, but rallied to sweep the doubleheader from Georgetown 6-5 and 6-0. Senior Abbey Welch saved game one for the Terps, and Stacey Jennings earned her second no-hitter of the year in the second game.

It was also a day for the Terrapin record books, as the team set a new mark for stolen bases in a season, and Amber Jackson tied the record for most home runs in a season.

With the Terps trailing 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning of the opener, Welch hit singled to drive in Alex Schultz for the game-tying run. She then replaced Meredith Nelles on the mound, and retired three batters to send the game into extra innings.

Maryland had trailed 4-1 heading into the fourth inning, after Samantha Peters hit a grand slam over Jennings in left field.

Jennings started the eighth on second base by virtue of the international tie-breaker rule, and promptly scored when pitcher Jennifer Connell overthrew first base after fielding a Lindsay Klein bunt.

Devon Williams pinch ran for Klein, and she gave the Terps a 6-4 advantage when Keri Lounge hit a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Hoyas' Katharine Lang scored a run in the eighth to narrow the gap to 6-5, but Peters grounded out and Olivia Newhouse popped up to Jackson at shortstop, and Welch had her third win of the year. Connell fell to 6-12 with the loss.

Jennings made sure that the Terps struggles would not be repeated in the second half of the doubleheader. After walking her first batter, Jennings caught fire, retiring the next 21 Hoyas she faced to earn her second no-hitter of the season. The senior improved to 6-7 on the season, while Sarah Kamenski fell to 2-12 with the loss.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings, but the Terps did manage to break their first record of the year. When Lounge and Jennifer Wellborn earned steals in the second, the Terps set a new team record for stolen bases in a season. Maryland now has 48 on the year, topping the old record of 46 set in 2003.

Welch started things off for the Terps in the third inning, and Jackson hit a deep ball to center field which skipped through the fence and was ruled a double. Welch advanced to third, and scored off a grounder by Jenny Belak.

Lindsay Klein, who was nominated for ACC player of the week for her performance against Virginia last weekend, tripled to right field to drive home Jackson and Belak. The Terps had a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.

Jackson tied the Maryland season record with her eleventh home run of the season, a two-run shot to right center field.

Welch finished with two runs, four hits and two RBIs on the day.
