Strawberry Named Second Team All-ACC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior D.J. Strawberry (Corona, Calif./Mater Dei) was named Second Team All-ACC today (March 5). He was also named to the ACC All-Defensive Team after earning honorable mention honors last year. Strawberry averaged 15.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and recorded a team-high 63 steals during the regular season. He is 11th in the ACC in scoring and fifth in steals per game (2.03).

Strawberry becomes the first Terrapin to make the All-ACC Second Team since Drew Nicholas in 2003. Earlier this season, Strawberry became just the 45th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau. He is 38th on the school's all-time scoring list and ranks fifth in career steals (196) at Maryland.

Senior Ekene Ibekwe (Carson, Calif.) was also named to the ACC All-Defensive Team. Ibekwe led the ACC with 2.7 blocked shots per game, recording 81 blocks this season. He earned honorable mention All-ACC after finishing the regular season averaging 10.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per contest. Ibekwe ranks fourth in the league in rebounding and fifth in defensive rebounds (4.87).

Ibekwe became just the fourth player in school history to score at least 1,000 points and record 500 rebounds and 200 blocked shots. He is 11th on the school's all-time rebounding list (754) and is fifth in career blocked shots (223).

Junior James Gist (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) was also named honorable mention All-ACC. Gist ranks 23rd in the conference with 12.7 points per game and is eighth in rebounding (7.2 rpg). A starter in 30 of 31 games this season, he is fourth in the league in blocked shots (2.16 bpg) and is fourth in defensive rebounds (5.00).

Freshman guard Greivis Vasquez (Caracas, Venezuela/Montrose Christian) earned All-Freshman honorable mention honors. Vasquez started in 19 of 31 games for the Terps, while averaging 10.0 points and 3.3 rebounds. He is fifth in the ACC in assist (4.65 apg) and seventh in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.73).

Maryland finished the regular season 24-7. The Terps tied for third place in the ACC with a record of 10-6 and earned the fifth seed in the conference tournament. Maryland will face Miami in the opening round on Thursday. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida.
