
Kim, Cullen Finalists At Spring Nationals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Dong Kim (Bucks Co., Pa.) and sophomore Eric Cullen (Severn, Md.) competed at the USA Swimming Spring National Championships this past weekend, faring well in their respective events. The meet ran from Tuesday, March 27 through Saturday, March 31 in East Meadow, N.Y. at the Nassau County Aquatic Center.
Kim entered this weekend's meet as a third-place finisher in the 100-yard freestyle and consolation finalist in both the 50 free and 100 backstroke at this year's Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. Kim swam an NCAA B-cut time in the 100 free and broke the school record in the 100 back at ACCs.
At the Spring National Championships, Kim swam the 100-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. He finished 29th in the 100-meter free with a time of 53.07. Kim qualified for the bonus consolation final in the 100-meter back with his prelim time of 59.19 and won his heat (17th overall) in the final with a Summer National-cut time of 58.11.
Cullen finished the 2006-07 season as a consolation finalist in both the 100-yard breaststroke and 200 breast at the ACC Championships, swimming career-best times in both events in addition to the 200 individual medley.
This weekend, Cullen competed in the 100-meter breaststroke and 200 breast at the Spring National Championships. He swam a time of 1:05.70 in the prelim for the 100-meter breast to qualify for the consolation final in the event. Cullen finished 13th overall in the 100-meter breast with a Summer National-cut time of 1:05.47 in finals. In the 200-meter breast, Cullen placed 27th with a time of 2:26.92.
