Box Score
TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -
The Maryland Terrapins were eliminated from the ACC Tournament Friday evening, falling to host Florida State by a score of 7-4. The Terps recorded seven hits on the day, but could not overcome the fourth seeded Seminoles, who advanced to a third round showdown with Georgia Tech.
Maryland jumped on Florida State early, scoring three runs in the game's opening inning. Seminole pitcher Terese Gober walked Terrapin lead-off hitter Amber Jackson to start things off, and Jenny Belak singled to get on base.
First baseman Lindsay Klein reached first on a fielder's choice and Amber Jackson beat the throw to home plate from the shortstop to put the Terps up 1-0. Jennifer Wellborn hit a deep double to left center field to score both Belak and Klein, and Maryland looked to be on its way to its second upset in as many games.
Yuruby Alicart got the Seminoles on the board in the bottom of the inning, driving the ball to the fence for a stand up double which scored Carly Wynn from second.
The Terps responded by loading the bases in the second inning, but they could not manage to score any runners. Florida State then evened the game with two runs in the bottom of the second to even the game at three.
The Seminoles loaded the bases in the third, and scored when Alicart walked to bring home Michelle Snyder. Before the Terps could get out of the inning, Veronica Wootson scored off of a Brittany Osman grounder to give Florida State a 5-3 lead.
Trailing 7-3 in the seventh, the Terps tried to stage a late rally. Amber Jackson walked and then stole second base. Keri Lounge singled to score Jackson, but the Terps would get no closer.
Meredith Nelles took the loss for Maryland to fall to 19-15 on the year. Her 19 victories tied for third most in Maryland single-season history. Tiffany McDonald, who entered the game to relieve Gober in the second inning, earned the win to improve to 17-4 on the year.
