Kim, Thomasson Post Personal Bests at US Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Maryland had seven swimmers travel to Indianapolis, Ind. last week to compete in the US Nationals along with two incoming student-athletes.

From the men's team, Eric Cullen, Andy Dilz, Dong Kim, Jake DiPiazza and Eric Thomasson competed in seven events. The men's 400 Medley Relay raced to a 14th place finish with a time of 3:50.20. Kim led off the relay with a 58.0 split in the backstroke, followed by a 1:04.0 from Cullen in the breaststroke split. Thomasson split a 55.75 in the fly leg and Dilz came home in a 52.3 for the Terps.

In individual competition, Kim posted personal bests in the 100 back (58.07), 50 free (23.66) and the 100 Free (52.24). Thomasson swam a 56.04 in the 100 fly, another personal best for the Terrapins.

Also competing for the men were Cullen in the 100 breaststroke and Dilz in the 200 breaststroke. Incoming Freshman Nick Cordes competed in the 50 meter freestyle.

On the women's side, two Terps, Annie Broome and Jen Vogel competed. Broome swam personal bests in both the 100 and 200 fly. In the 100 fly, she swam a time of 1.00.77 in prelims and 100.99 in finals, which placed 15th overall. In the 200 fly, Broome swam a time of 2:14.57 in prelims and then 2:14.04, placing 12th in overall. Both the 100 and 200 butterfly were under the Olympic Trial standard qualifying Broome for the Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska next year.

Vogel competed in the 100 and 200 butterfly while incoming freshman Jessalyn Crawford competed in the 400 meter medley and free relays with her home club program. .
