Chrest Joins Women's Lacrosse Team As Volunteer Assistant Coach

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head coach Cathy Reese has announced that 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Katie Chrest will join the Maryland women's lacrosse coaching staff for the 2008 season. Chrest, who had a stellar four-year career at Duke, was a three-time All-American and two-time ACC Player of the Year. With the addition of Chrest, the Terrapins are now the only women's lacrosse team in the nation to have two Tewaaraton Trophy recipients on their staff.
"We are very excited to announce that Katie Chrest has joined our staff," Reese said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and skill with her to our program. Her career at Duke was outstanding and adding another Tewaaraton winner to our staff is something that will greatly benefit the program. Her experience in the ACC and at the U.S. Team level will add another dimension to our staff."
Chrest's name is etched throughout the Duke record books as she holds career records with 79 games started, 216 goals, 287 points and 528 shots. She is also third all-time with 71 assists.
On the single season ledgers, her 2005 and 2006 seasons dominate the records as her 70 goals in 2005 and 64 goals in 2006 are first and second while her 96 points in 2005 is also first. As a senior, her 83 points are second while her 26 assists in 2005 are third.
Chrest, a member of the 2007-08 United States Elite Team, was an incredibly accomplished student-athlete while with the Blue Devils. As a junior, she won the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy, given annually to the nation's best lacrosse player. In addition, she was named ACC Player of the Year, IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse first team All-America and Attacker of the Year. She was also tabbed the ACC Tournament MVP while being selected the ACC Player of the Week three times.
As a senior, Chrest was a finalist again for the Tewaaraton Trophy and a first team All-American. In 2004, she was a third team All-American and as a freshman she was named the ACC Rookie of the Year.
While with the Blue Devils, Chrest led the women's lacrosse team to the NCAA Final Four in 2005 and 2006, while leading the Blue Devils to their first ACC Championship in school history in 2005. Duke compiled a record of 64-18 during her career.
Chrest, a native of Hampstead, Md., graduated from Duke in 2006 with a degree in history.
