COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Three days after the promotion of Justin Maxwell to the Washington Nationals, Maryland baseball is sending a second product to the big leagues this week. Former Terp right-handed pitcher Kevin Hart, who last played for Maryland in 2004, was called up by the Chicago Cubs today.
Between Class Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa this year, Hart compiled a 12-6 record in 25 starts while striking out 131 batters and walking 50.
Throughout his four-year minor-league career, Hart has amassed a 32-25 overall record with a 4.36 ERA.
Hart is the third former Terp to make it to the big leagues in the last five years, joining Maxwell and Steve Schmoll, who pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005 and now pitches in the New York Mets' minor-league system.
