Meet Results
The University of Maryland gymnastics team placed second in a quad meet at the Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas this afternoon by scoring a season-high total of 192.625. University of Denver won the meet, totaling a 195.700. Texas Woman's University finished third with a 192.175, while U.S. Air Force Academy placed fourth with a 184.125.
The team began the competition on the balance beam with Talia Tossone and Brandi George leading the way. The sophomores both notched 9.800 scores.
In the second rotation, freshman Abigail Adams got the Terps off to a strong start by scoring a 9.825 on the floor exercise. Sophomore Michele Brenner tumbled to 9.850, tying for second in the event. The floor total of 48.950 is Maryland's highest event score of the season.
Sophomore Candice King led the Terrapins on vault in the third rotation, earning a 9.625.
In the final rotation and for the third week in a row, sophomore Allison Dama was the team's top uneven bars performer. Dama scored a 9.800, followed by a pair of 9.650 marks from George and redshirt freshman Lisa Reifschneider.
Denver's Jessica Lopez dominated individually by winning the all-around (39.500), vault (9.925), uneven bars (9.850) and balance beam (9.875). Texas Woman's gymnast Amie Boles scored 9.90 for first on floor exercise.
Maryland takes a short road-trip to Towson University to compete in the thirteenth annual Governor's Cup on February 1. The meet is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Towson Center Arena. This competition between the states of Maryland and North Carolina features Maryland, Towson, University of North Carolina and NC State. The state of North Carolina has a 7-5 lead in the series.
