Can I get a YEE-HAW!
Last week's practice was a bit longer than usual, as our meet wasn't until Sunday, but we made our extra time in the gym count. In preparation for our first quad meet, the team worked extra hard in the gym and everyone was ready by Friday. We even got our new competition flip-flops just in time for the trip!
It was also our first away trip of the season and the whole team was excited! For our Texans it meant a trip home, and for everyone else, it meant a trip out of the cold!
Saturday morning was an early start, but the team made it on the bus and to the airport without any major glitches...yet...
Once we got to Texas, however, it was a totally different story. As hard as we tried, we could not find our way around! (even with a new navigation system!) I kept a running tally, and we made a total of 14 u-turns! We did eventually find the hotel though, and luckily the restaurant we ate at for dinner was only up the street.
Sunday morning was another early one, but with the time difference it wasn't too bad. We woke up to a cold and foggy Texas morning, but it cleared up quickly and turned out to be a warm sunny day (much to the relief of our warm-weather lovers). It was another adventure trying to find Panera for breakfast, but well worth the wait! Then, it was time for the meet.
We started off on beam and Gretchen came out with a hit right off the bat. Lindsey followed with another strong routine and the good vibes kept on coming! Then we headed to floor where the Terps tore it up! Everyone danced it up and helped us get a season-high team floor score! Abbey and Candice's friends and family made for a great Terps cheering section! Vault and bars were solid, especially with Allie's consistent 9.8 bar score!
All in all, it was a great meet. Even though we were missing Brandi from the all-around we had KJ and Val back in action, which was great!
For me, this was an intense meet. We went head-to-head with my old team, Denver, and needless to say, I was NERVOUS! The coaches and team came to my aid and helped calm my nerves before and during the meet. It was great to see my old teammates, but even better to see how amazing my new Terp-family is!
The Terps are back in action this Friday for the Governor's Cup against UNC, NC State, and Towson being held at Towson! Hope to see you all there!
GO TERPS!
Lisa :)
