PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -
Michal Amir defeated Rachel Saiontz of Princeton, 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (6), advancing to the third round of the singles tournament at the ITA Regionals on Sunday. The win was Amir's second of the tournament and sixth on the year.
Amir suffered her first loss of the season in the following match versus Rutgers' Amy Zhang, 2-6, 6-0, 7-5.
Also in the singles bracket, junior Eleanor Peters won her fourth match of the season over University of Delaware's Elena Berry, 6-2, 6-0. Peters lost her third round match to Molly Scott of Dartmouth, 6-3, 6-1.
Karin Lundmark was victorious in her second round match against Smaranda Stan of Buffalo, 6-2, 6-2 before losing a hard fought match to Katarina Zoricic of William & Mary, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (3).
In the doubles draw, Amir and Lisa Miller opened play with a dominant win over Molly Scott and Shelley Carpeni of Dartmouth, 8-2, before falling to UVA's Jennifer Stevens and Emily Fraser in the round of 16, 9-7.
Maryland went 4-6 in singles play and 3-3 in dual matches for the weekend.
The Terps are off for two weeks until the Kitty Harrison Invitation in Chapel Hill, N.C., Nov. 7-9.
