Maryland Head Coach Gary Williams
Opening Statement:
"Right now, I really believe at this point in the season there is no player in better condition than Landon Milbourne, in terms of how hard he works. He gives you that toughness that you need. I thought he was great tonight. As a team, we shot the ball a little better. I thought we did a pretty good job because Delaware State works hard, and they don't back off. You look at who and where they played, and you see that there are very few teams who win more games than they've won so far."
On the performance of Greivis Vasquez:
"Greivis is playing really well. Tonight I thought he took whatever was there. He had 16 points, and he was doing a really good job restricting the basketball. He had seven assists, and that's good for us because that's a good sign that we are passing the ball well. This time of year, this is our last game for a while, so we wanted to work really hard, because it's tough to duplicate things you learn in practice."
On the job done by Cliff Tucker during Friday's game:
"Cliff Tucker was very active tonight and made some things happen. That is the type of player he has to be for us, so that was good to see also."
On being ahead at halftime:
"You don't look at it as being over at halftime because anything can happen. The attitude is there to work hard from the start. We don't try to work our way into a game to then see how hard we have to play."
On the defensive effort by his team against Delaware State:
"I thought our defense was there early tonight. We are buying into it, and that's a good sign. We believe we can play good defense. We have played it against some teams that are pretty good and have confidence."
On the performance of Sean Mosley:
"I don't put any pressure on freshmen to score a lot of points. I think Sean gives the intangibles and toughness like Landon Milbourne, but in a different position. As long as he does that, the offense will come. It is a little quicker out there, and sometimes it takes a while to adjust to it. Sean is mentally tough enough to calm down enough to where he can start making those sometime. He'll be fine."
Junior Guard Eric Hayes
On the play of Landon Milbourne:
"He has been really big for us this year. We needed him to step up and be a leader in that forward position and has really come up big for us"
On shooting the ball more often this game:
"I'd like to have made a few more [shots] than I did, but I'm definitely looking for my shot. I'm not too worried about it, it's only fall, and they felt good to me. "
Junior Forward Landon Milbourne
On how he feels in the new forward position:
"It feels good, I feel pretty comfortable out there. It is just a matter of going out and working hard every day at practice."
On how the team is going to handle these next few games to not have a letdown:
"We have talked as a team about what happened last year around this time. I think we are headed in the right direction. We have a lot of positive energy in our locker room, which has been a big difference from last year."
Sophomore Forward Dino Gregory
On the team having a season-high in assists:
"We worked really well together tonight. The guards did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense and we did a good job of running the court."
On the play of Braxton Dupree:
"He played a great game and he did a good job for us in the middle. We are going to depend on him a lot over the rest of the season."
Delaware State Head Coach Greg Jackson
Thoughts coming into the game:
"We were playing an ACC team. We had really no expectations coming into the game except to give a good effort. You need to give yourself a chance to compete. I thought in the second half, we did just that. We just got beat by a much better basketball team and a much better program."
On sticking with Maryland to open the second half:
"It was a good sign to see us sticking with Maryland [to open the second half]. We have to learn how to put two halves together. That's hard to do when you are playing at a level like this."
On the talent of Maryland:
"Maryland is a good basketball team. They are talented at all five positions. They move very well without the basketball."
On the Maryland defense:
"Maryland plays a solid defense. We don't have the pieces to combat the pressure that they play. Maryland has players at all five positions that can guard the basketball."
On the play of junior forward Kris Douse:
"Kris Douse had a good night coming off the bench scoring 14 points."
On the level of Delaware State basketball:
"We are a long way from being a team that can compete at this level."
