
Vasquez Named Co-ACC Player of the Week

Greensboro, N.C. - Maryland sophomore guard Greivis Vasquez (Caracas, Venezuela) was named Co-Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week along with Boston College's Tyrese Rice on Monday (Feb. 18). Vasquez was named ESPN.com's Player of the Week on February 11.
Vasquez averaged 22.5 points, 7.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and was 18-for-31 (.581) from the floor in games against Duke and Florida State last week. The Caracas, Venezuela, junior had 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in Wednesday's 82-72 loss to Duke. In Saturday's 82-72 win over Florida State, Vasquez had 20 points, eight assists and four rebounds.
Vasquez earned the ACC Rookie of the Week honors on February 19, 2007 and was an honorable mention All-ACC Freshman selection a year ago. Vasquez leads the ACC in assists per game (6.77) and is fourth in the league in scoring (17.3). He has scored in double figures in 24 of 26 games this season and has led the Terps in assists 15 times.
Maryland (17-9, 7-4 ACC) returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 20) when the Terrapins take on the Virginia Tech Hokies. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. at Comcast Center. The game will be broadcast on the Terrapin Sports Radio Network and will be televised by Raycom Sports.
