The Maryland women's tennis team lost to Dartmouth, 5-2, in its season opener Saturday afternoon at the Tennis Center at College Park. The Terps are now 0-1 on the spring season.
The Terrapins started the match off on a good note with a win coming from junior captain Michal Amir and freshman Karin Lundmark over Dartmouth's Molly Scott and Megan Zebroski, 8-2.
The Terps went on to lose their next two doubles matches. Freshman Julia Huschke and sophomore Maggie MacKeever lost to Jesse Adler and Mary Beth Winingham, 9-7. Sophomore co-captain Lisa Miller and freshman Adela Matejkova lost their match to Dartmouth's Maggie Suydam and Georgiana Smyser, 8-2.
Lundmark also won her singles match over Zebroski, 7-6, 6-4, at the No. 2 singles slot. Freshman Oksana Krutiyenko won her match at the No. 6 spot over Jamie Caplan, 3-6, 1-0, ret.
Amir lost her No. 1 position match to Scott, 7-5, 6-2, and Huschke dropped her No. 3 match to Winingham, 6-2, 6-3.
MacKeever and Miller both lost close matches. MacKeever lost to Adler, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 4 position and Miller lost to Carley Markovitz, 3-6, 6-2 (10-8), at the No. 6 spot.
The Terps will play host to Auburn tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Tennis Center at College Park.
