Terps Complete Day 1 of ACC Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. - The University of Maryland women's team completed their first day of competition at the Georgia Institute of Technology in seventh place with a score of 48 points.
The Terps began the day with a ninth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, scoring 18 points for Maryland. Annie Fittin swam a 25.90 in the first leg of the race for the Terps. Captain Emily Smoak swam in second, followed by Blair Cross and Yelena Skalinskaya, compiling a time of 1:43.00.
Maryland continued the day scoring 30 points in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Maya Finkler, Jackie Davidson, Nina Rossi and Kathryn Snedeker finished fourth wit ha time of 7:19.97.
In the final event, Virginia came from behind in the 800 free relay as the foursome of Stephanie Glover, Jess Lewis, Jenna Harris and Megan Evo finished in first place with an NCAA "B" cut 7:09.12. This time was good enough to break the previous conference and ACC meet records. The previous record was set by former Terps Elizabeth Lavell, Chrissy Miller, Meghan Sackett and Sasha Malania hold the conference record for the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 7:13.29 set on February 16, 2005.
The ACC Women's Swimming/Men's and Women's Diving Championships will resume tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. Diving will begin at 1 p.m., while finals start at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available on http://www.theacc.com/livestats/c-swim/.
