ATLANTA, Ga. - Jen Vogel was 10th and Nina Rossi placed 12th in the 200-yard individual medley to highlight University of Maryland performances Thursday in the second day of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Swimming Championships being hosted by Georgia Tech.

Vogel and Rossi accounted for the Terps' first individual points in the meet. Coupled with a tie for 15th in the 50 freestyle by Yelena Skalinskaya and a sixth-place finish to cap the evening in the 200 free relay, Maryland finished the second day of the four-day meet in ninth place with 87.5 points.

Vogel went 2:02.58 to cut more than two seconds off her career-best in the 200 IM, while Rossi trimmed more than a second off her personal best with a 2:03.32. Each mark was a provisional-qualifying mark for the NCAA Nationals next month.

Stephanie Parker also had a career-best in the 200 IM at 2:09.35, placing 31st.

Skalinskaya went a season-best 23.48 in the prelims of the 50 free and tied for 15th in the evening swim at 23.52. Emily Smoak (23.59), Jackie Davidson (23.86), Blair Cross (24.05), Kathryn Snedeker (24.22) and Jessalyn Crawford (24.98) all posted career-bests for the Terps in qualifying heats in the morning.

In the final event of the evening, Annie Fittin, Skalinskaya, Smoak and Davidson combined to go 1:32.38 in the 200 free relay, Maryland's best mark in two years and a B cut for the NCAAs. Clemson swam 1:30.60 to win the event with a conference and meet record.

Davidson came back later in the evening to swim a time trial in the 100 free and posted Maryland's best time of the season at 50.95. The mark just missed the NCAA B-cut mark of 50.90.

Day three of the ACC Championships resumes Friday with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m. Live stats will be available on http://www.theacc.com/livestats/c-swim/.
