Terps Tumble Talk: Brandi George

Feb. 3, 2008

Hey Terp Fans,

Last weekend was quite the adventure through Texas and things went much smoother travel-wise this past Friday as we were back on the road again. This time our meet was much closer to school, which is a huge plus for those of us who are terrified of airplanes (Abbey, Gretchen and myself). Friday's competition was the Governor's Cup at Towson. The Governors cup is a quad meet with two teams from Maryland (Towson and University of Maryland) and two teams from North Carolina (UNC and NC State). It is a battle between the states of Maryland and North Carolina. This was a big meet for us as we went against two EAGL rivals and Towson another HUGE rival.

We started the meet off on beam again. We had an awesome debut from Kelsey McDermid who impressed us all with a nice beam set! It was a pretty impressive moment as she just got released from the doctor on Monday and had only been on the beam twice since she injured her back before season began. It was an awesome way to start the meet and really brought a great deal of excitement to the team. Next came floor, and what an exciting event. We had a great sense of energy on floor and the enthusiasm from the entire team was incredible. We hit 6-for-6 on floor and did not count anything less than a 9.725. Michele led the way with a 9.85 with her awesome tumbling and crowd-pleasing dance. Then we went to vault and hit 6-for-6. Abigail Adams led the way with a beautiful vault. We ended the meet on bars where we had some trouble but really saw the team's heart and fight. We put up some nice bar sets, one coming from Lisa Reifschneider who is a prime example that hard work and determination in the gym really pays off.

This meet has shown us all that our team has potential to do some really great things. There were many positive things that came from this meet as we all saw what our team is made of. The chemistry and the heart of this team are pretty incredible. The enthusiasm we felt on floor was something that we have worked very hard on and something that we will continue to show throughout the season on each and every event. We are headed back into the gym this week with a sense of enthusiasm and determination as we prepare for Michigan State next weekend.

Have and Awesome week and thanks for reading,

Brandi George
