COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The 38th-ranked University of Maryland gymnastics team (3-5) will face No. 23 Michigan State on February 9 in East Lansing, Mich. The meet is set for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Jenison Field House.
Last Time Out
Maryland finished third at the Governor's Cup on February 1. The Terps notched a 191.825 score. The University of North Carolina and NC State finished first and second, while Towson placed fourth.
Sophomore Brandi George finished second in the all-around (38.90) and tied for second on the uneven bars and balance beam. She scored a season-high on the bars (9.775) and matched her season-high on floor (9.80).
The freshmen are coming on strong. For the second week in a row, this class contributed 35 percent of the Terps' counting scores, the highest percentage of the season.
Freshman Kelsey McDermid made her collegiate debut and scored a 9.475 on balance beam.
About the Michigan State Spartans
The Michigan State gymnastics team placed second and earned its season-high score, 194.675, on February 2 at the State of Michigan Classic.
Looking Ahead
After the weekend in Michigan, Maryland will host George Washington University on February 15 for its "Terps of a Cure" Night. This meet is designated to promote breast cancer awareness and raise donations for the cause. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
