
Terps In Eighth After Third Day of Play

ATLANTA, Ga. - The Maryland swimming and diving team finished the third day of competition in eighth place at the Georgia Institution of Technology. The Terps finished with 142 points, ahead of Duke, Boston College and the University of Miami.
Junior Dong Kim grabbed 14 points for the Terps' largest take of the day in the 100-yard backstroke. Kim finished fifth with an NCAA-B cut qualifying time of 48.73. Freshman Chris Sanford grabbed the last scoring spot in 16th place to add one more point to the Terrapins total.
The Terps scored 10 points in the 100-yard butterfly. Freshman Nick Cordes picked up seven points, finishing in the 10th slot while sophomore Aleksandar Damjanic finished 14th to pick up an extra three points for the Terps.
Maryland added another eight points in the 100-yard breaststroke. Scoring seven for the Terps was 10th place Eric Cullen, while sophomore Andy Dilz boasted for the last scoring spot to add another point for the Terrapins.
The Terrapins opened Day 3 with a 24th place finish in the 400-yard IM. Haywood Miller finished with a time of 4:07.26.
Sophomore Brian Honore had a 17th place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Chris Rouchard, freshman Kirk Jackson, sophomore Ryan Greene and freshman Matt Gruszecki also placed 20th, 24th, 32nd and 36th, respectively, in the event.
In three-meter diving competition, senior Derek Hock finished 16th with a compiled score of 253.85 to add another point onto the Terps' total.
The final day of the ACC Championships resumes Saturday, Mar. 1, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 7 p.m. In addition, platform diving will be conducted for the first time in ACC history.
