COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland baseball team travels to Atlantic Division foe Wake Forest this weekend looking to earn its first ACC wins of the season.
Maryland begins weekend play at 7-7 following a two-game, mid-week sweep of Delaware Tuesday and Wednesday.
Sophomore Scott Swinson (Ellicott City, Md./George Washington University) will start on the mound Friday for Maryland, taking on Wake Forest senior Ben Hunter. Ian Schwalenberg (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) will face Garrett Bullock Saturday and Jensen Pupa (Germantown, Md./Northwest) will battle Charlie Mellies in the series finale Sunday.
The Terps are looking for their first series victory against Wake Forest (9-5, 2-1) since the 2000 season when they took two of three games from the Demon Deacons. The Deacs swept last season's series.
Maryland senior Chad Durakis (Cockeysville, Md./St. Pauls) paces the Terps in five major offensive categories: batting average (.377), slugging percentage (.642), on-base percentage (.484), RBIs (14) and walks (20).
Durakis is also just one double shy of moving into 10th place in program history.
Junior Allan Dykstra leads the ACC in four offensive categories: runs (23), home runs (five), walks (20) and on-base percentage (.577). Dykstra also boasts an impressive .750 slugging percentage.
Overall, the Deacons are an offensive-minded team, ranking fourth in the ACC in hitting and 11th in pitching.
WMUCSports.com will provide a live radio feed for all three games at WMUCSports.com. Saturday and Sunday's games will be on ACCSelect.
