COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland softball team concluded the Maryland Spring Break Classic with wins over UMBC, 5-2 and Niagara, 4-1. The Terps had strong pitching performances from Meredith Nelles and Sarah Dooley, who each collected their ninth win. The 23rd ranked Terps improved to 22-4 on the season.

Sophomore Alex Schultz had a superb day from the plate going three for three in the first game with a single, double and triple. Her triple in the third inning drove in Devon Williams to give the Terps a 4-1 lead. In the second game, Schultz tripled to score Brittany Bessho to tie the game at one in the second inning.

In the second inning, Jenny Belak singled to score Niki Lau and Schultz to give the Terps the lead, 3-1. Belak continued her attack on the school record book as her three hits today put her in sole possession of fifth place in career hits with 188.

Nelles (9-0) won her ninth game of the year, striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings pitched. Kerry Hickey pitched the last two outs for her first career save.

In the second game, freshman Kerry Hickey doubled down the left field line to score Breanna Shaw for her team-leading 21st RBI.

Dooley (9-4) struck out eight with only three hits for her fourth complete game of the season. Nelles and Dooley are tied for the team lead with 72 each.
